Many people would ask this question, ‘Why climb?’ What pleasure you get in
bringing heavy gears up in the mountains then going down again the other day (Anung
napapala nyo sa pag-akyat ng bundok at pagdala ng mabigat na gamit tapos bababa
din naman). Most of them says, ‘its just a waste of time, money, and
energy’, and putting yourself to danger where you can be safe in the city or right
in the comfort of your home.
For me, mountaineering gives me
some space, or should I say enough space to enlighten myself. Escape is one of
the major factors. Being tired of routine work and problems in everyday life;
bored of the same things that happening again and again, mountain is the place
to be. Some say its temporary, but it’s a good feeling after the climb that
you are now ready to face them. Another reason
is my love of nature. The cool breeze of air, scent of unusual flowers and
plants, the touch of the wind to the leaves of the trees that shades me, the
dance of waters in rivers and streams joined by the singing of exotic birds,
crickets, and cicadas. Here, I feel so alive like a newly born baby. Here you
will see the landscapes and scenic views the creator have done. After the climb,
my body feel so light, even my soul. There are several other reasons
like friendship and camaraderie. Here you trust your fellow mountaineer as
he/she trusts you. You learn the basic principles of friendship and like sharing
of food and equipment, helping and showing concern based on the different
situations and conditions in the mountain. There will always be someone to care
for you even a complete stranger mountaineer from the other groups or from the
locals of the mountain. Here you
acquire mountaineering skills that helpful in everyday life like discipline,
time-management, courtesy, leadership, and even first-aid/survival skills and
cooking. Another reason is travel, here you can see and explore new places. You
will learn new culture, people, and their history and be able to relate with
them. Mountaineering is a physical activity, going outdoors trekking with heavy
packs on the back builds endurance that makes you physically fit. Here you also
get into sports like swimming, rappelling, rock-climbing, mountain biking, and
so on.
Mayron ding mga mabababaw na

For
any reason it may be, there are many answers to that question that cannot be
explain by words alone, you have to be there and find it for yourself. |
